Forward Deployed Software Engineer This role serves as the critical bridge between X-energy's APEX platform development team and stakeholders across the organization. The Forward Deployed Software Engineer is responsible for maximizing APEX platform adoption and effectiveness through direct stakeholder engagement, training, support, and feedback integration. This customer‑facing technical role requires deep expertise in agentic AI workflows and enthusiasm for empowering teams with AI‑native solutions. The position combines stakeholder enablement responsibilities with hands‑on product engineering work, ensuring that developed solutions address real‑world engineering, manufacturing, regulatory, and deployment challenges. This role is essential to X-energy's mission of becoming an AI‑first organization and setting the industry standard for nuclear deployment speed and operational excellence. Responsibilities Stakeholder Enablement & Training (60%) Design and deliver customized training sessions for individual work groups and departments on APEX platform capabilities and agentic AI workflows. Conduct regular office hours (both virtual and in‑person) to provide hands‑on assistance and answer technical questions. Organize and present lunch‑and‑learn sessions featuring new APEX features, use cases, and best practices. Create weekly blog posts and video content showcasing APEX applications, tips, and success stories. Coordinate with the training team to develop comprehensive APEX curriculum, documentation, and learning materials. Plan, organize, and facilitate APEX workshops and conferences for internal and external audiences. Manage and respond to feedback submitted through the APEX feedback board, prioritizing and categorizing issues. Administer the APEX roadmap voting system, ensuring stakeholder input informs product development priorities. Respond to support questions across multiple channels, troubleshooting issues and escalating when necessary. Continuously assess and improve APEX documentation based on user feedback and common support issues. Identify gaps in platform adoption and develop targeted enablement strategies. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, regulatory, and business functions. Product Engineering & Development (40%) Serve as the voice of the customer within the product engineering team, translating stakeholder needs into technical requirements. Design and implement agentic AI workflows that solve specific departmental challenges. Develop front‑end interfaces using React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Vite for APEX applications. Build back‑end service solutions using AWS services (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, etc.) to support AI‑powered applications. Create proof‑of‑concept demonstrations to validate solution approaches with stakeholders before full development. Collaborate with the AI and Application Development team on feature prioritization and roadmap planning. Conduct user acceptance testing with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet real‑world requirements. Implement feedback loops between users and developers to rapidly iterate on solutions. Develop integration points between APEX and existing enterprise systems (Workday, Deltek, P6, etc.). Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices. Leverage Claude Code and AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate delivery. Document technical implementations and integration patterns for internal knowledge sharing. General Responsibilities Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication. Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures. Execute core tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment. Perform other duties as assigned by manager. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited university or college. 5+ years of relevant experience. 3+ years of experience in customer‑facing technical roles (solutions engineering, technical account management, developer relations, or similar). Strong expertise in agentic AI workflows and practical LLM applications. Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Experience developing with React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks. Proficiency with AWS services and cloud‑based application architecture. Hands‑on experience with Git, GitLab, CI/CD, and modern development workflows. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating technical content (blog posts, documentation, presentations). Demonstrated ability to gather requirements from stakeholders and translate them into technical solutions. Experience with support ticket systems and feedback management tools. Self‑motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to context‑switch between training, support, and development responsibilities. Genuine enthusiasm for AI technology and passion for helping others leverage it effectively. Ability to work hybrid schedule in Rockville, MD office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Preferred Qualifications Experience in the nuclear energy industry or other highly regulated technical fields. Background in technical training, developer advocacy, or developer relations. Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, AWS Bedrock, or similar AI frameworks. Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform). Prior experience building internal tools or platforms for engineering organizations. Knowledge of enterprise systems integration (ERP, PLM, project management tools). Experience conducting workshops, webinars, or conference presentations. Proficiency with Claude Code or similar AI‑assisted development tools.
