Software Engineer Java / C++ | Test Automation | Missile Defense Full-Time with an Employee Owned and Best Places to Work Contractor Onsite in Huntsville, AL | Schedule: 9x80 We are hiring a Software Engineer in Huntsville, AL to support the Ground Weapon System (GWS) – IFICS Data Terminal (IDT) Integrated Product Team (IPT) on a mission-critical Missile Defense program. This role requires an active Secret security clearance and experience with Java, C++, Linux (RHEL8), Git, Agile software development, and test automation to develop and maintain software supporting system-level requirements verification for Department of Defense (DoD) applications. Responsibilities Design, develop, document, test, debug, and maintain software applications supporting system-level test automation and requirements verification. Develop software products supporting the GWS-IDT Integrated Product Team (IPT) in an Agile software development environment. Support the full software development lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, implementation, integration, testing, and deployment. Collaborate with systems engineers, software developers, and hardware engineers to develop scalable, maintainable software solutions. Analyze software requirements, system capabilities, user needs, and technical constraints to develop effective software solutions. Ensure compliance with software engineering standards, coding best practices, and quality requirements. Apply object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns to produce high-quality software. Develop, deploy, and maintain software in Linux environments, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL8). Utilize Git for source code management and version control. Prioritize and manage multiple technical assignments while adapting to changing program priorities. Apply systems thinking to ensure software solutions meet mission objectives and long-term maintainability. Communicate effectively with engineering teams and customer representatives throughout development and integration activities. Support a secure, closed-area onsite work environment and travel up to 10% as required. Qualifications U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law Active, in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret Security Clearance required. Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or a related technical discipline preferred. Bachelor's degree with 5 years of related experience, or Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years of related experience, or equivalent qualifications as specified. 4+ years of software development experience using Java and C++. Experience with Git source code management. Experience deploying and managing software in Linux environments, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL8). Experience using Eclipse IDE. Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns. Experience supporting software integration, testing, and deployment activities. Ability to travel up to 10% as required. Ability to work onsite 100% of the time in a secure, closed-area environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA), Ground Weapon System (GWS), Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), or other Department of Defense missile defense programs. Experience with MySQL database management and SQL data retrieval. Experience using Atlassian tools, including Jira and Bitbucket. Current CompTIA Security+ certification. Experience developing software in Ada. Experience with software containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
