The Software Test Engineer works closely with software developers, system architects, and project teams to ensure that software components are deployed, tested, and validated effectively on Linux‑based targets. The position combines hands‑on technical work—such as writing and executing test plans, debugging issues, building and deploying containerised applications. Success in this role requires a solid understanding of Linux systems, software testing practices, scripting, and modern software delivery approaches, alongside the ability to work proactively and maintain high standards of quality and documentation.ResponsibilitiesIntegrate complex software components into distributed platforms.Develop and execute verification plans, scripts, and wider software test activities.Work with software engineers to troubleshoot, debug, and validate software on Linux targets.Package and deploy software using containerisation technologies such as Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.Apply software best practices including unit testing, static analysis, and adherence to coding standards.Contribute to software build pipelines (Jenkins or Git runners) and configuration management workflows.Produce technical documentation and maintain test deliverables.Participate in project reporting, risk management, and regular engineering meetings.Collaborate closely across software, architecture, and project teams.QualificationsDegree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).ISTQB certification would be beneficial.Required SkillsJava, C++, and Python (competent to practitioner level).Linux OS, Linux infrastructure, and Linux scripting.Software architectures and large‑scale distributed system design awareness.Model‑driven development and mathematical model implementation (desirable).Containerisation (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes).Build pipelines (Jenkins/Git runners).GPU programming awareness (CUDA, HIP, OpenCL) – desirable.Virtualisation technologies.Automated testing awareness.Preferred SkillsExposure to Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe.Familiarity with software configuration management tools (Bitbucket, Artifactory) and task management (JIRA).
