Audio System Engineer for Spatial Audio Capture and Reproduction

Candidate Requirements
Must-Have Skills
1 Design and execute of audio recordings in controlled laboratory/studio settings.
2 Experience with spatial audio applications and listening.
3 Experience in audio editing and mixing.
Nice-to-have Skills
1 Experience in audio recording, editing and mixing of large multi-track and multi-asset projects for AR/VR, music, games and video.
2 Experience utilizing Reaper, Audition, Wwise, FMOD, Unity, Unreal, Premiere, Pro Tools.
3 Experience with spatial audio mixing formats - surround, Atmos, Ambisonics.

Summary:
Reality Labs Research at Client brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. In particular, the Reality Labs Research Audio team is focused on two goals: creating virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality, and redefining human hearing. These two initiatives will allow us to connect people by allowing them to feel together despite being physically apart, and allow them to converse in even the most difficult listening environments.

The Augmented Capture research team within Client Reality Labs Audio is seeking a contract audio system engineer to help us create unique audio experiences for virtually reliving and sharing real life experiences using spatial audio capture. The role includes: performing audio recordings, audio data processing, audio (and video) mixing and tuning, and developing relevant methods and tools leveraging expertise in audio signal processing, audio hardware systems, sound design and acoustics.

Job Responsibilities:
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary researchers to integrate novel algorithms into a whole system with optimal tuning and mixing for high audio quality.
Perform audio recording involving complex apparatus, prototype devices, and human subjects in controlled laboratory environments.
Contribute to the development of component and system-level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Write technical reports and papers describing research results and methodologies.

Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in a relevant technical field with 3+ years of industry experience in audio technology development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3+ years experience in designing and performing audio recordings in controlled laboratory/studio settings.
Experience with spatial audio applications and listening.
Experience in audio recording, editing and mixing.
Experience in audio signal processing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in audio recording, editing and mixing of large multi-track and multi-asset projects for AR/VR, music, games and video.
Experience utilizing Reaper, Audition, Wwise, FMOD, Unity, Unreal, Premiere, Pro Tools.
Experience with spatial audio mixing formats - surround, Atmos, Ambisonics.
Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, MaxMSP and/or PureData for audio applications.
Expertise in psychoacoustics, auditory perception, spatial audio, room acoustics, and physical acoustics
Experience with prototype hardware devices
Experience with motion tracking systems
Experience with large-scale automated data collection and analysis
Experience designing and setting up acoustic laboratory spaces
Experience working in cross-functional, inter-disciplinary environments
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality technical reports and/or publications.
