Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Step into a rewarding role where your expertise can create meaningful impact for middle school students. This contract position runs from August 14 through November 1 and is designed to support a dedicated classroom with an intensive communications program. The classroom consists of nine students, primarily with Autism and intellectual disabilities, all following a functional and life skills curriculum. Two paraprofessionals are assigned to assist with classroom activities, ensuring strong support for both students and teacher.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois LBS1 and PEL credentials (a screenshot of your license must be attached as a separate page to your resume)
  • Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or in functional skills programs strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Unique Learning curriculum and life skills instruction is a plus
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of student needs and collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals
  • Excellent organization and communication skills

Primary Duties:

  • Deliver small group instruction targeting life skills, communication, and functional independence
  • Integrate practical activities, such as cooking and laundry, in the classroom's mini-kitchen and laundry area
  • Plan and participate in community-based field trips to reinforce real-world application of skills
  • Collaborate with support staff and paraprofessionals to ensure all students are engaged and supported
  • Regularly monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
