Role: SQL Database Admin
Location: Newtown Square, PA (Hybrid, 2-3 days in office every week)
Duration: Contract to Hire after 6 Months
The candidate will be a team player in a technology organization responsible for client's Database Infrastructure environment. The Senior SQL Server Database Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our enterprise data environment. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in complex technical ecosystems, enjoys solving performance challenges, and can guide architectural decisions that support long-term scalability
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments.
- Optimize database performance through indexing strategies, query tuning, and resource monitoring.
- Manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions (Always On, clustering, log shipping, replication).
- Oversee database security, access controls, encryption, and compliance with internal and external standards.
- Perform database upgrades, migrations, patching, and capacity planning.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts for routine tasks using PowerShell or similar tools.
- Collaborate with application developers, data engineers, and infrastructure teams to support new and existing solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues, including performance bottlenecks, blocking, deadlocks, and storage constraints.
- Create and maintain documentation, standards, and best practices.
- Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- 8-10+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
- Deep expertise in SQL Server versions 2016 and above.
- Knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, or SSAS.
- Experience with cloud database platforms (Azure SQL, Managed Instance, AWS RDS for SQL Server).
- Strong proficiency in T SQL, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
- Proven experience with HA/DR technologies (Always on Availability Groups, clustering, replication).
- Solid understanding of Windows Server, networking fundamentals, and storage concepts.
- Experience with monitoring tools (SQL Sentry, Redgate, SolarWinds DPA, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM, etc.).
Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar.
