Job Description

Job Description
Sr. Electrical HW Design Engineer

Location: Greater Chicago, IL
Experience Level: Senior (7–10+ Years)
Security Requirement: US-Person Required (ITAR/EAR)
Duration: 12 month+ contract assignment

The Opportunity

The Ranger Group is seeking a high-caliber Senior Electrical Engineer to support one of our premier aerospace customers in the Chicago area. This is a critical role within a multidisciplinary project team, focused on the design and development of sophisticated analog and power electronics systems.

If you are a seasoned engineer who thrives on technical precision—from simulating complex circuits in PSPICE to navigating the rigors of EMI/EMC compliance—we want to hear from you. You will be a key contributor to the project’s success, ensuring that high-level customer specifications are transformed into reliable, flight-ready hardware.

Key Responsibilities
  • Precision Design: Lead the design of low-signal analog and power electronics, ensuring seamless integration with digital system architectures.

  • Requirements Mastery: Utilize DOORS to capture, track, and translate customer specifications into detailed electrical requirements.

  • Analytical Rigor: Perform component power consumption and dissipation calculations; use MathCAD for advanced scientific modeling and PSPICE for circuit simulation.

  • Schematic Excellence: Execute complex schematic captures using Mentor DxDesigner/Expedition.

  • Testing & Validation: Author comprehensive test plans and lead hands-on troubleshooting and validation using standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).

  • EMI/EMC Strategy: Apply industry-standard design principles to ensure electromagnetic interference and compatibility requirements are met.

QualificationsThe Essentials
  • Education: Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of professional experience (10+ years preferred) in the field of Electrical Engineering, specifically within aerospace or high-reliability industries.

  • Compliance: Due to the nature of the aerospace projects, US-Person status is strictly required.

  • Tools: High proficiency in Mentor DxDesigner, PSPICE, MathCAD, and DOORS.

The "Aerospace Edge" (Preferred)
  • Experience with High-Power Systems: High current (200A+) and high voltage (270V+).

  • Knowledge of 3-phase inverters and motor control theory.

Professional & Soft Skills
  • Technical Translator: Ability to explain intricate technical concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams (Mechanical, eCAD, Systems).

  • Collaborative Mindset: You will operate as a core member of the project team, requiring proactive communication and a commitment to shared project goals.

  • Critical Problem Solver: Strong analytical skills with a proven track record of troubleshooting complex hardware issues.

What the Project Offers

Through our customer partnership, you will be provided with all the necessary resources to excel:

  • Training & Standards: Proper training on specific aerospace processes and requirements.

  • Seamless Access: Secure login/FTP access to all necessary data and internal documentation.

  • Structured Success: Clear methods, templates, and processes provided for every work package.

  • Location: Support for a major aerospace hub in the Chicago area; travel is not expected but will be coordinated if necessary.
