Primary responsibility for observations, diagnostics and treatments to animal colonies housed at UP site through directives of the LASG veterinarians. Provides study support for development of animal models and investigator research (e.g. anesthetic monitoring, surgical preparation, dosing, sampling). Responsible for documentation of animal histories and regulatory compliance of animal-related studies for various agencies (e.g. USDA, FDA). Primary responsibility for on-site veterinary care during weekends and holidays. Provides training and consultation to LASG staff, investigators and others in areas of expertise. Assists in management and behavioral assessment of the animal colonies.ResponsibilitiesThis role will provide you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress your career. These responsibilities include some of the following:Work well independently and with others to efficiently handle multiple priorities in a variety of areas.Plan the orderly direction of work, effectively establishes priorities, efficiently implements and performs procedures in support of colony health programs and investigator research.Conduct animal health procedures (e.g. injections, IV catheterization, bandaging) with skill and proficiency in variety of laboratory animal species to ensure the health of the research animal colony.Assist in assessment of critical cases and pain management of the animal colonies.Assist in making recommendations on more complicated health issues (e.g. post-operative care of newer animal models, critical care patients).Perform routine and more complicated procedures (e.g. anesthesia, radiology, dosing, sampling) with proficiency in a variety of laboratory animal species to provide quality animal care and in support of research.Coordinate and perform quarantine and preventative programs (e.g. vaccinations, tuberculosis testing, blood collection, rodent health surveillance) in laboratory animals with proficiency.Responsible for accurate and timely documentation of clinical cases, anesthetic procedures and other animal-related information that meets requirements for quality veterinary care and regulatory agencies (e.g. USDA, FDA).Serve as a liaison between the veterinarians and scientists, notify each of animal health concerns in a timely manner, coordinate preventative program schedules for research animals with scientists and veterinary staff.Stock and maintain areas of responsibility in an organized and "hospital clean" state that meets regulatory requirements.Comply with applicable written documents, such as SOPs, LAS policies and R&D safety policies (complies with appropriate use of all personal protective equipment).Attend all mandated training on time.
