Your Role:

Assigned as owning adjuster when injury exposure is identified with exposures exceeding $25,000 in value that may include demonstrable and catastrophic injuries. Handles both represented and unrepresented first and third-party cases appropriate for resolution with independent settlement limit of up to $35,000, to include handling of low-complexity litigation claims to conclusion, including trail. Handles claims in multiple states including licensed states and statutory states (OK license required). Handles complex Homeowner liability cases, including third party personal liability claims. When necessary, may own claims of low complexity when supporting catastrophes. May handle first party non-liability based injury claim (Medical Payment and PIP).

Your work:

  • Ability to manage communications in writing, by telephone and by electronic means (e.g., e-mail)
  • Assigned as Owning/Adjuster when injury exposure is identified.
  • Handles complex 1st and 3rd party auto liability cases involving injury with unrepresented claimants.
  • May handle low complexity litigated cases with defense attorney involvement
  • May handle 1st party Medical payment and PIP.
  • May assists in catastrophes related activities including handling simple homeowner losses.
  • Responsible for handling, managing, investigating, negotiating, settling and/or resolving injury claims with exposure in excess of $25,000.
  • Interacts directly with defense counsel providing direction, authority for resolution (i.e., settle or go to trial) and ensures appropriate outcome in balancing defense costs and indemnity on low-complexity litigation claims
  • Collaborates with defense counsel to identify strategy for negotiations and provides input as the face of the organization via phone or in-person mediations and settlement conferences on low-complexity litigation claims.
  • Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Adjuster to manage productivity by seeking claim assignments through designated queues in the claim system. Triage is self-managed and not automated in the claims system.
  • Making coverage determinations and advising customers as to proper course of action related to coverage issues.
  • Conducting investigative work of a complex nature (interviewing witnesses; obtaining and analyzing evidence, including medical records; deciding whether an independent medical examination is warranted; etc.).
  • Direct defense counsel in non-litigated or litigated claims.
  • May require representing the insured and/or the company at settlement conferences.
  • May require appearing at and representing the insureds at arbitrations and trials.
  • May require testimony in a deposition setting.
  • Evaluate defense counsel fees and cost for reasonableness and resolve.
  • Evaluating potential for subrogation and initiating initial notice of subrogation request.
  • Making final decisions to settle within settlement authority, without supervisory approval, and developing negotiating strategies.
  • Presenting cases in Committee setting when seeking above settlement authority level; thereafter, independently negotiating and settling the claim.

Required Experience, Education and Skills

  • Proficiency or ability to obtain proficiency in the handling of minor, moderate and complex litigated claims
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Proficient in ability to work independently.
  • Strong decision making ability
  • Extensive understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements and ability to develop proficiency in standards of civil procedure
  • Ability to travel and to work extended hours and/or weekends
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills and ability to organize and present complex facts to executive management
  • Strong math skills, basic computer skills and ability to type at least 30 wpm
  • HS/GED or a minimum of 3 years experience in casualty claims role within P&C insurance industry
  • A total of 6-7 years of claims experience with a minimum of 1-3 years in the Senior Casualty role or equivalent complex casualty/litigation experience

The national average salary range for this position is $80,820.00 - $89,800/year. However, we have a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. The full[salary range for this position across all the states we hire in is $72,810.00 - $107,900. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 10% of eligible pay.
