The Senior Database Administrator provides technical leadership and hands‑on development support for NAVSUP Business Systems Center (BSC) applications. This role supports the full System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including code refresh, enhancement, testing, cybersecurity compliance, sustainment, and knowledge transfer, in accordance with Government‑provided requirements and specifications.This is a hands‑on technical role supporting mission‑critical Navy logistics systems.What You’ll DoSystem & Database Administration Support (majority of the work)Provide system administration support for application and database environments, including access controls, account management, configuration updates, and coordination with Government system administrators.Support sustainment activities such as environment configuration, patch coordination, backup verification, and troubleshooting of application or database‑related system issues.Perform database engineering and sustainment tasks, including schema modifications, SQL scripting for data updates and corrections, stored procedure and index maintenance, query performance tuning, and root cause analysis of database errors, locks, and data integrity issues.Software Development & MaintenanceDevelop, enhance, and refresh application source code in accordance with approved Government technical and functional design specifications.Ensure code aligns precisely with approved requirements and design documentation, with clear in‑line documentation to support long‑term maintainability.Maintain and update application code bases during enhancement, maintenance, and sustainment phases.Secure Coding & CybersecurityConduct code analysis to identify defects, logic issues, or business rule deficiencies and report findings to the Government Technical Assistant (TA).Perform application security scans using HP Fortify and remediate findings to achieve zero Category I and II vulnerabilities.Ensure compliance with DISA Application Security STIGs, DoD cybersecurity policies, and applicable NIST security requirements.Testing & Quality AssuranceDevelop and execute unit test plans, test cases, and supporting test data validating 100% of identified unit requirements.Support Integrated System Testing (IST), System Testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including defect resolution and regression testing.Document test results and ensure testing artifacts meet Government review and approval standards.Documentation & CollaborationDevelop and maintain technical documentation including program specifications, interface documentation, test plans, and system artifacts.Adhere to configuration management standards and ensure all source code and deliverables are checked into Government‑approved repositories.Collaborate with NAVSUP technical staff and provide knowledge transfer, mentoring, and over‑the‑shoulder support.Required QualificationsExperienceBachelor's Degree in any discipline Minimum 5 years of experience performing software engineering activities.Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and testing software and database‑driven applications.Experience supporting systems across SDLC phases, including development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.Technical SkillsMicrosoft Visual StudioC+Microsoft SQL ServerSecure coding practicesGUI development and testing methodologiesSoftware defect identification tools (e.g., FindBugs or equivalent)Testing ExperienceUnit, Integrated, and User Acceptance TestingTest case development, test data creation, defect tracking, and regression testingCertifications & SecurityDoD 8570.01‑M IAT Level II CertificationSecret Clearance (Preferred)Must be US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain required background investigation and Common Access Card (CAC)Completion of required DoD Cyber Awareness and Information Assurance training
