Seeking a Sr. Enterprise Server Engineer to support the day-to-day operational management and tasks associated with the Secure Out-Of-Band management (SOOBM).
SOOBM provides access and control of IT assets outside of the production network. With SOOBM, efforts to upgrade device operations systems and to remediate security vulnerabilities can be performed with significantly less risk of extended outages due to failed image upgrades and on reduced timelines.
The primary use of SOOBM is to provide management access to remote network devices when the primary network is offline due to an unplanned outage or when service impacting maintenance must be performed. Examples of service impacting maintenance include WAN circuit replacement or reconfiguration, network device operating system upgrades, service impacting configuration changes, etc. The type of assets that require SOOBM include the mission critical routers, switches, firewalls, etc.
SOOBM is a core capability that remote sites must have to support upgrades and local network repairs and reduce response times for unplanned outages.
- SOOBM will eliminate drive times and reduce or eliminate the requirement for staff to be onsite during service impacting maintenance at remote sites like clinics.
- SOOBM will provide management access to remote sites when unplanned Wide Area Network (WAN) outages occur.
- SOOBM will provide disaster recovery support via remote management.
Skills Needed
- 15+ years of IT/Telecom related experience plus a Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- US Citizen
- Hands-on experience with ENTERPRISE level server virtual management and console server access
- VMware
- IPv4 and IPv6 subnetting
- Mobile or end point device configuration
- Hands-on LAN/WAN switch/router and enterprise network experience
- Experience with things like Cradlepoint
- Server/network software patch updates and other operational server mgmt. tasks
- Professional, collaborative communications skills
- Proven reliability, strong work ethic, disciplined, and self-motivated
- Takes initiative and a team player
- Understands the importance of following client processes and templates
- Veterans who understand and support the VA's mission preferred
