Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems
Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions
Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
Trusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations
Expected Qualifications 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
Venmo Cloud/DevOps Engineer Description Responsibilities Ensuring the seamless operation of all user‑facing services, as well as production and development systems
Managing Venmo’s infrastructure comprehensively across operations, automation, security, compliance, and release engineering
Focusing on Cloud Engineering while integrating elements of Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps
Overseeing CI/CD infrastructure, developing smart and secure pipelines, implementing self‑service secret management systems, creating development environments, and establishing microservices scaffolding and testing frameworks
Ensuring infrastructure is delivered automatically, thoroughly tested, and scanned for vulnerabilities through synthetic tests
Supporting critical domains and leading major initiatives related to the domain
Contributing to the architectural group that defines the future of the company’s technical development
Acting as a hands‑on contributor while mentoring other engineers and product owners on how to improve development using best practices
Leading major initiatives end‑to‑end: defining design, identifying stakeholders, navigating risks and changes, coordinating colleagues’ work, implementing solutions, and being accountable for timely and quality delivery
Continuously raising the bar by assisting engineers in developing and delivering code more efficiently and securely
Troubleshooting incidents, identifying root causes, fixing and documenting problems, and implementing preventive measures
Coaching and mentoring engineers on design principles and best practices
Recognizing, validating, and evangelizing emerging technologies and architectures that align with business objectives
Strategically and tactically leading by example, making meaningful contributions to the improvement of engineering teams’ production operations
Developing and improving tools and automation to manage infrastructure and application configuration as code
Enhancing the quality, reliability, and stability of infrastructure and operations
Qualifications Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in computer science or a related field of study
7+ years of experience in software development or a related field
5+ years of experience operating distributed applications 24x7x365 as part of a Cloud Engineering, DevOps, and/or SRE team
2+ years of technical leadership experience
Extensive hands‑on experience with designing, implementing, and supporting distributed systems
Deep hands‑on experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS (or similar cloud provider)
Hands‑on programming and scripting skills in Python, Java, Bash, and Go
Hands‑on experience with containers and container orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and explain technical issues to a non‑technical audience
