Overview:
Our client is $1B+ privately held insurance company seeking a Staff Accountant. Reporting to an Accounting Director, this position is open due to growth. This role is responsible for preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and supporting internal and external reporting requirements. This position works closely with internal stakeholders across finance, operations, and analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and record monthly and quarterly journal entries related to underwriting activity, including premiums, losses, and commission expenses.
- Process reinsurance transactions in accordance with contractual terms, including tracking payables and recoverables.
- Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger account reconciliations on a timely basis.
- Perform balance sheet and income statement variance analysis versus forecasts, identifying and documenting key drivers.
- Support quarterly and annual underwriting and reinsurance reporting, including loss development schedules and incurred loss analytics.
- Assist with preparation and reconciliation of data used in statutory filings and annual statements.
- Support new products, system enhancements, and process improvements, including data uploads and user acceptance testing.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, business partners, and external vendors to resolve issues and meet deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 1 – 3 years of accounting experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Basic understanding of insurance products and reinsurance concepts (e.g., Life, A&H, P&C) is preferred.
- Experience with general ledger systems, financial reporting tools, or analytics platforms is preferred.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and accountability.
- Collaborative, service-oriented approach when working with internal and external partners.
