Job Summary:

ACET is seeking a highly experienced CNC Machine Shop Quality Assurance Tech / Planner to support manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring all manufactured parts meet AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards, engineering drawings, and contractual requirements. Responsibilities include manufacturing and quality planning, First Article Inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, and final inspection using calibrated precision measurement equipment, while generating accurate QA documentation and inspection reports to ensure AS9100 / ISO compliance. The ideal candidate has hands-on CNC manufacturing experience, strong planning and estimating acumen, and proven leadership in regulated aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing environments.


Key Responsibilities

Quality System Compliance

  • Execute inspection activities in compliance with AS9100 and ISO 9001:2015 requirements
  • Support internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure quality documentation is complete, accurate, and properly controlled
  • Drive accountability for productivity, quality, and schedule adherence
  • Ensure fabrication technicians follow approved routings, work instructions, and quality requirements

First Article Inspection (FAI)

  • Perform First Article Inspections in accordance with AS9102
  • Complete AS9102 Forms 1, 2, and 3 (or customer-approved equivalents)
  • Verify materials, processes, and dimensional conformity
  • Re-accomplish FAI when design, process, or tooling changes occur

In-Process Inspection

  • Conduct in-process inspections at defined manufacturing checkpoints
  • Verify critical features prior to downstream operations
  • Support operators with inspection guidance while maintaining QA independence
  • Identify, document, and escalate nonconforming conditions
  • Define inspection points, First Article Inspection (AS9102), and quality gates
  • Lead corrective actions for nonconformances, scrap, and rework
  • Ensure configuration control and document accuracy

Final Inspection & Product Release

  • Perform final dimensional and visual inspections prior to product release
  • Verify material traceability, certifications, and traveler completeness
  • Ensure all contractual and quality requirements are met prior to acceptance
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 / ISO 9001 and engineering drawings
  • Authorize final QA release documentation

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 / ISO 9001 / customer flow-down requirements
  • Define inspection points, First Article Inspection (AS9102), and quality gates
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Lead corrective actions for nonconformances, scrap, and rework
  • Ensure configuration control and document accuracy

Precision Measurement & Calibration

  • Utilize calibrated precision measurement devices, including:
    • Micrometers
    • Calipers
    • Height gauges
    • Bore gauges
    • Dial indicators
    • CMMs (where applicable)
    • Other Measurement devices in field
  • Verify calibration status and compliance with NIST-traceable standards
  • Identify and report out-of-tolerance equipment conditions

Shop Fabrication Technician Backfill & Flow Support

  • Assess production workload and identify critical path or at-risk operations
  • Assist / Work as Shop Fabrication Technician to backfill machining, fabrication, deburr, assembly, or secondary operations as needed to maintain workflow.
  • Preform cross-training to support flexible staffing models

ERP / Systems & Reporting

  • Ensure accuracy of routings, BOMs, and work orders in ERP/MRP systems
  • Monitor labor reporting, job status, and WIP
  • Provide operational metrics and forecasts to leadership
  • Support cost, schedule, and capacity reporting

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade school preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in CNC machining inspection
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Experience performing AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI)
  • Proficient in reading engineering drawings and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Hands-on experience using precision measurement equipment
  • Knowledge of aerospace/precision materials (aluminum, steel, titanium, nickel alloys)
  • Excellent communication, briefing
  • Exceptional documentation and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to details and accurate reporting
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance (T3 level) if required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace or defense manufacturing background
  • Ability to work independently and in a production environment
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma exposure
  • Experience supporting DLA, OEM, or FAA-regulated work


Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Position involved long periods of standing and sitting and exposed to occasional high noise levels and physical activity can vary
  • Position may require lifting, bending, squatting, pushing and some climbing on step ladder – 2 feet or less
  • Will be required to walk industrial facility with floors that can be slick
  • May be exposed to some sealants, adhesives, tooling oil
  • Must be able to list 50 lbs. independently
  • May be around and exposed to high level of noise
  • Fit for duty physical may be required
  • Audiograms may be required
