Job Description and Duties

The California Secretary of State is seeking qualified applicants to fill a full-time, permanent Staff Services Manager I position in the Elections Division

Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II, the Staff Services Manager I plans, organizes, and directs activities in the Elections Division. The incumbent manages staff in performance of critical and complex program work related to the Election Services Unit. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

The incumbent manages staff in the performance of critical and complex program work related to the Election Security Unit, including election security, translations, language access, ballot tracking, Vote by Mail activities and oversight of the Language Accessibility Advisory Committee, and the Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee.

  • Strong critical thinking, writing, editing, communication skills.
  • Possess strong leadership skills with ability to create excellent working relationships with colleagues and staff.
  • Aptitude for working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines and demonstrated ability to work independently with excellent follow-through on tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, recommend an effective course of action, and establish priorities for the completion in accordance with sound time-management methodology.
  • Ability to interact effectively with stakeholders, the public, and all levels of departmental personnel to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Knowledgeable of modern office methods and equipment, including experience with personal computers utilizing Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Working Conditions: This position provides hybrid telework opportunities based upon the agencys telework policy and business needs.
