Job Description and Duties
California Energy Commission seeks a Staff Services Manager II (Supervisory) in the Media and Public Communications Office.
The Media and Public Communications Office (MPCO) includes the Media Relations Unit, the Creative Services Unit and the Events Unit. The MPCO collaborates to create clear, concise communications campaigns that tell the CEC story to internal and external stakeholders. Our work increases understanding and awareness, inspires action and empowers decision-making to advance the states climate and clean energy goals.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Executive Director for Strategic Planning & Media (Communications Director), the Staff Services Manager (SSM) II supports the California Energy Commissions (CEC) supports the California Energy Commissions (CEC) overall communications strategy by overseeing the Media and Public Communications Office (MPCO)s Media Relations Unit and Events Unit.

Working Conditions
The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Ability to work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some overtime and alternate work schedule changes as necessary. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance.

6. Background in journalism/media relations/public relations/marketing.
7. Experience in responding to media inquiries by serving as a media spokesperson or preparing spokespeople for interviews.
8. Experience in developing and executing strategic communications materials such as news releases, news and feature stories, blog posts, and talking points.
9. Experience using Office 365 tools including Teams, Planner and SharePoint.
10. Experience writing in plain language while adhering to style and brand guidelines.
11. Experience working in a customer-service-oriented environment.
12. Knowledge of state human resources, budgeting, and purchasing policies and procedures.
13. Knowledge of or an interest in California climate and clean energy policy.
14. Strong interpersonal, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
