Staff Software Engineer Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin, TX, Warren, MI, Sunnyvale, CA, or Mountainview, CA, three times per week, at minimum.

We work across qualification, catalog, cart, checkout, billing, payments, subscriptions, orders, and customer account journeys, partnering closely with product, design, architecture, and operations teams to deliver reliable, scalable experiences. The role We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer with demonstrated ability to use AI as a force multiplier for software development in digital commerce environments. This role is ideal for a highly technical engineering leader who can use AI-assisted workflows to improve delivery speed and quality, shape reliable low-latency services and architectures, and raise team productivity through stronger engineering practices, reusable patterns, and technical leadership.
What You'll Do Lead the design and evolution of customer-facing digital commerce systems across areas such as qualification, checkout, billing, payments, subscriptions, catalog, cart, orders, and customer account journeys
Use AI-assisted workflows to accelerate implementation, code review, testing, debugging, and documentation, while setting the standard for safe and effective adoption
Evaluate AI output for correctness, security, maintainability, and production readiness, and help teams apply strong judgment in where AI adds value
Drive architecture and API decisions across modern web applications and services built with technologies such as React, Next.js, Node.js, Java, and related frameworks
Improve engineering excellence through stronger design reviews, testing strategy, automation, observability, and DevOps practices
Build reusable workflows, patterns, and guidance that improve productivity across engineers and teams
Partner across product, design, architecture, platform, and operations to align technical direction with business priorities
Coach engineers and influence technical execution beyond direct code contributions
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) At least 8-10 years of strong coding, debugging, and code review skills with the credibility to lead through technical depth
7+ years API and system design capability with sound tradeoff judgment
Practical use of AI across coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and understanding existing codebases, APIs, architecture, and technical documentation
Ability to use AI with structured engineering practices such as specs, reviews, tests, and observability
Hands-on experience across relevant technologies such as React, Next.js, Node.js, Java, and modern web application architecture
Strong engineering excellence in test automation, operational automation, and DevOps practices
Ability to balance performance, reliability, maintainability, and cost while improving team delivery
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Experience in digital commerce or other customer-facing digital platforms
Experience in areas such as qualification, checkout, billing, payments, subscriptions, orders, catalog, cart, or customer account flows
Exposure to commerce platforms or vendors such as Shopify or similar ecosystems
Exposure to technologies or patterns such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), LangChain, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns, vector databases, AI agents, or evaluation frameworks
Experience helping teams experiment with and adopt newer AI development workflows without overengineering the solution

COMPENSATION: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.
The salary range for this role is 160,200 to 246,300.
The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
