The Role

Were currently looking for a Staff Specialist who will work closely with the Clinical Director and Deputy Clinical Director, Drug and Alcohol team (Clinical Nurse Consultants, Nurse Practitioners, the state wide post release care planning services; relevant service sites Nursing Unit Managers/Nurse Managers, and D&A stream staff specialist colleagues) to ensure evidence based care is provided to patients and clinical risks are identified early and managed well.

The Staff Specialist Will

  • Be responsible for the provision of specialist clinical care in the area of addiction medicine to patients in adult correctional centres and young people in juvenile detention.
  • Ensure that service delivery to patients is of a high quality and includes comprehensive history taking and examination, suitable diagnostic formulations and management plans, timely and responsible referral, adequate recording of clinical information, following correct procedures for prescribing, ordering investigations and comprehensive discharge planning.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical leadership to develop team approaches at a local level to clinical risk management, including leading regular multidisciplinary clinical case review meetings, ensuring regular, appropriate, and effective local site D&A clinical handover procedures. Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of new and innovative clinical practice as required by the strategic directions of the D&A service.
