Job Summary Central Service Technician
- Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment.
- Operates and maintains autoclave units, ensuring proper function and performing daily biological and chemical tests.
- Inspects gas and steam autoclaves for malfunctions.
- Processes contaminated instruments and supplies according to established protocols and manufacturer's instructions.
- Assembles, wraps, and packages trays and supplies for sterilization, including specialties (OB-GYN, general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, podiatry, pain management, urology).
- Cleans and sterilizes endoscopy scopes.
- Applies aseptic technique in all work assignments.
- Stores sterilized supplies and equipment in appropriate locations.
- Maintains and cares for instruments, syringes, needles, and special procedure items.
- Loads, operates, and cleans all sterilization equipment and general equipment used in the department.
- Fills requisition requests, receives and delivers surgical supplies.
- Orders weekly department supplies and maintains inventory as needed.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation of all processes and tests.
- Assists with the training and in-service education of new and current staff.
- Stays informed of policies, procedures, and department communications.
- Ensures reliable attendance, punctuality, and flexibility to meet department needs.
- Performs duties safely and complies with all safety policies and procedures.
- Adheres to federal, state, and local regulations and hospital compliance policies.
- Maintains confidentiality and supports the organization's mission, vision, and values.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and collaborates with management to enhance department effectiveness.
- Communicates compliance or confidentiality concerns as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned related to the department.
Requirements:
- Certified CRCST and CER.
- Basic computer skills.
- Effective communication with staff, medical personnel, and vendors.
- Physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs, frequent walking, standing, kneeling, and bending.
- Visual and hearing acuity.
- Exposure risk to blood borne pathogens (Category I).
Shift: 8:30am 5:00pm
