Job summary


The Structural Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and integrity of structural components for new and existing construction projects. You will work closely with architects, project managers, and on-site contractors to ensure all designs are safe, efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with all relevant building codes and regulations. This role will involve both office-based design and on-site inspection duties.


Key responsibilities


Conduct structural analysis, including calculating loads, pressures, and stresses on foundations, beams, columns, and walls.
Prepare detailed structural designs, drawings, and specifications using computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD and Revit.
Select appropriate construction materials, such as steel, concrete, wood, and masonry, based on project specifications and structural requirements.
Collaborate with architects, designers and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated and buildable designs.
Provide technical guidance during all phases of construction, from conception to completion.
Review shop drawings and provide feedback to colleagues.
Oversee and inspect the work of contractors and sub-contractors on-site to ensure adherence to design specifications.
Ensure all designs and construction practices comply with local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
Advise on repair options, demolition plans, and modifications for existing structures.
Manage project budgets and timelines related to the structural scope of work.
Investigate and diagnose structural issues or failures, and provide solutions for repairs or modifications.
Inspecting buildings to assess their structural integrity


Qualifications and skills Required


Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
5 years of proven experience as a Structural Engineer, preferably within a construction or engineering firm. (Commercial construction environment is a plus)
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
In-depth knowledge of building codes, standards, and construction methods.
Deep knowledge of construction materials and methodologies.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license is a plus.
