SF 211 Structural Steel Detailer / Drafter
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Detailer/Drafter to convert engineering and architectural designs into accurate, detailed shop and erection drawings for the fabrication and installation of structural and miscellaneous steel. This role is critical to the successful execution of construction projects and requires strong technical expertise, precision, and a solid understanding of structural steel standards and fabrication processes.
This is a full-time, on-site position based at our Plantsville, Connecticut office. Remote work is not available. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed structural and miscellaneous steel shop and erection drawings using 3D and 2D CAD software (Tekla, AutoCAD 3D, Fusion 360, etc.).
- Interpret architectural and structural engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Coordinate closely with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and field teams to ensure constructability and design accuracy.
- Prepare material take-offs, cutting lists, and bolt lists to support fabrication and assembly.
- Incorporate AISC detailing standards, building codes, and project-specific requirements into all drawings.
- Utilize tools such as Bluebeam, Procore, and SketchUp for drawing review, coordination, and markups.
- Maintain accuracy, quality, and schedule adherence throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in structural steel detailing or related drafting roles within construction or fabrication environments.
- Proficiency in Tekla Structures, AutoCAD 3D, and Fusion 360; experience with Revit, ArchiCAD, SolidWorks, or BIM software is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of AISC Detailing for Steel Construction standards.
- Ability to accurately interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical or drafting certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
