Southland Steel Class A WelderSouthland Steel is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Class A Welder with strong experience in arc gouging and flux core arc welding (FCAW) to join our fabrication team. This role involves performing high-quality welds on structural steel and heavy equipment parts, adhering to strict specifications and industry codes.Key Responsibilities:Perform flux core welding (FCAW) on various metals including carbon steel and alloy materials.Use arc gouging (air carbon arc cutting) to remove defective welds or prep material.Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and weld symbols.Set up and operate welding equipment safely and efficiently.Inspect welds for quality and conformance using measuring tools and visual checks.Follow all safety protocols, wear appropriate PPE, and maintain a clean work area.Participate in pre-weld setup, fit-up, and post-weld finishing as needed.Operate overhead cranes, grinders, and other fabrication tools.Work independently and as part of a team under the direction of the Welding Supervisor.Qualifications:1-2 years of welding experience in a fabrication or industrial setting.Proficient in FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) and arc gouging techniques.Ability to pass welding certification tests (company-specific).Familiarity with structural welding codes (e.g., AWS D1.1) a plus.Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in confined spaces or elevated areas.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.High school diploma or GED required; technical training or welding school preferred.Preferred Skills:Experience with flux core welding (FCAW) or MIG/TIG is a plus.Previous experience in shipbuilding, heavy industrial, or structural steel industries.Forklift and overhead crane certification a bonus.Compensation & Benefits:Competitive hourly wage based on experience.Overtime opportunities available.Health, dental, and vision insurance.401(k) with company match.Paid time off and holidays.Job Type: Full-timePay: $26.00 - $28.00 per hourExpected hours: 40 50 per weekBenefits:Referral programWork Location: In person
