Position Description:

J.B. Speed School of Engineering is seeking a full-time candidate for the position of Student Career Specialist III (Co-operative Education (co-op)). This position will support the Director in regard to managing the employer experience with the office and also work with a select student population as a co-op advisor.

Speed and Cooperative Education Background

At UofL Speed School of Engineering, we have a mandatory cooperative education requirement for our seven undergraduate engineering programs.

Essential Duties

  • Facilitate the cooperative education process for assigned engineering disciplines including student preparation (resume development, interviewing skills and professional conduct), tracking and communication of co-op placements and management of the credit-bearing experience (eligibility, performance and grades). Assist students that need additional support through job and interview coaching.
  • Coordinate co-op eligibility and performance standards with the assigned engineering departments
  • Leadership role in employer engagement; work with employer team (employer-facing roles) to manage the employer experience in our office in terms of recruiting, access to students, and event participation. Oversee employer programming as needed.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to produce employer marketing materials: print and web.
  • Assist the Director in developing operations and programs that enhance our ability to meet the offices educational mission. Serve as Director backup. Participate in research, professional development, and other scholarly activities to maintain current best practices.
  • Assist the Career Development team in the organization and execution of career events, information sessions, and office programming.
  • Maintain the existing Engineering Career Services database, Symplicity, with the relevant co-op student and company information, focus on contact maintenance for employer connections.
  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement of the Speed Engineering Career Development and Cooperative Education process

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with using a career services management system.
  • Master's Degree in higher education, human resources, career counseling or related field or 8+ plus years of relevant experience.
  • Data analysis skills
  • Background in experiential education or career development
  • Knowledge of engineering careers and marketplace
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Target Compensation Maximum: $68,900

Target Compensation Minimum: $45,900

Compensation Will Be Commensurate To Candidate Experience.
