Focusing on population level prevention our team engages in health policy development, community level assessment, community health improvement planning, partner collaboration building, public health education and proactive wellness intervention. With a County overall health ranking of 11th in California the Division of Public Health has a broad catalog of comprehensive prevention programs including Maternal Child Adolescent Health family oriented nursing services, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, California Childrens Services, preventive clinical services focusing on contagious diseases, Snap Ed, Oral Health and Tobacco Use Prevention services.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Student Interns will work with Mother Child Adolescent Health (MCAH) Director, Care Management Counselor and high school based Public Health Nurse to develop and initiate a teen friendly outreach plan for suicide prevention and access to mental health resources. The position is for 6 hours weekly per intern. They will also provide resources for access to adolescent sexual health services and tobacco use prevention. Student Interns will compile teen data for El Dorado County pediatricians to be reported by MCAH Director.

Enrolled in an accredited high school academic or vocational curriculum;
OR
Within one (1) year of receipt of a high school diploma or GED.
Licenses and Certifications:
Some positions may require the possession of a valid Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Applicants under 18 years of age and currently attending an accredited high school must secure and provide a work permit prior to the start of the internship.
Positions are limited during the summer months or on a part-time/intermittent basis (not to exceed 20 hours per week) during the school year.

A written exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The online examination has been tentatively scheduled for February 20, 2024. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email at least one week prior to the examination.
If you have taken this examination within six (6) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, your score will automatically be transferred to this exam and you are not permitted to sit for this examination. If you have taken this examination from greater than six (6) months but within twelve (12) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, you may elect to transfer that examination score or sit for the examination again; you must contact Human Resources prior to the scheduled exam date to request that your previous score be transferred.
A transferred examination score does not guarantee passing the current examination administration. Examination pass points are set in accordance with the EEOC Uniform Employee Selection Guidelines.

Extra help vacancies are made to maintain adequate coverage of work for short periods of time at frequent intervals, where employment is of a recurrent nature depending on the needs of the Agency; work may be seasonal, on-call, and/or for a limited duration. Extra help employees are not considered regular employees, therefore do not attain civil service status, and do not receive benefits or paid leaves; however, they do accrue sick leave consistent with the law. If appointed to an Extra Help position it may transition to a regular position if all the conditions of Personnel Rule 1103.1 are met.
