Department: TRIO Student Support Services Location: Eastern Campus Reports To: Program Manager, TRIO SSS East Campus Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req6737 Employment Type: Full-Time Support Staff Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: Standard College Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Number of Openings: 1 SUMMARY Provides personal, academic, and career advising to potential and current program participants/students. Conducts individual and group workshops. Collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure optimum support. Generates and coordinates outreach activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides academic, career, and personal advising to potential and current program participants/students Assists with identifying and selecting new participants Develops Educational Plans, monitors participants’ progress, refers participants to counseling as needed Assists students with completing financial aid and scholarship applications, writing essays, and forming attainable academic and career plans Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all necessary data to ensure compliance with the U.S. Department of Education Conducts individual and group program‑engagement sessions Meets regularly with staff for participant and program evaluations Meets with faculty regarding participants’ progress and course content/material as needed Works collaboratively with the Student Counseling department to ensure attentive and efficient student referrals when needed Assists with the development of the departmental newsletters and other correspondence as needed May attend College‑wide meetings, workshops, and conferences as directed Assists with metric tracking and report preparation Performs other duties as assigned REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING Master’s Degree in a related field Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience advising, counseling, and/or teaching under‑prepared students Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem‑solving methods in a variety of situations KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Strong organizational and time‑management skills Works accurately with great attention to detail Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment Promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve stakeholders in decision‑making Understand community needs Work well with faculty, staff, and administrators Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed Enter, monitor, and interpret student data accurately Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive relationships Complete work assignments independently Working knowledge of student advising concepts, practices and procedures Basic project management skills Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Basic Blackboard skills (or equivalent) Basic BANNER system skills (or equivalent) Confidentially handle sensitive subject matters Collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance on projects Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and quality Sensitivity to respond to student and community needs COMPETENCIES CRITICAL COMPETENCIES Customer Service Collaboration / Inclusion Results Focus VERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES Communication Time Utilization / Organization Quality of Work IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES Servant Leadership Flexibility / Adaptability Continuous Improvement / Innovation PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING Experience with College/Program‑specific software (BLUMEN) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of federal TRIO programs and regulations PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated Employee may sit comfortably to perform duties; may perform repetitive motions with computer; may walk, stand, bend, carry light items May require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to meetings and conferences away from worksite EQUAL OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT Cuyahoga Community College is committed to attaining excellence through the recruitment and retention of a qualified workforce.
