Job Summary


Mesa Community College has been awarded a Title III Hispanic-Serving Institution Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics 5-year grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The HSI-STEM Guided Pathways Enhancement Project aims to (1) make college education more accessible with the emphasis on STEM, (2) prepare HSI-STEM eligible students to earn an associates degree in STEM, and (3) encourage students to pursue a bachelors degree in STEM at a four-year university. Grant activities to support these goals included enhancing and expanding programs for students to pursue certificates and/or degrees in STEM fields. The program advisor will assist new and continuing Mesa College Promise students (including families and students bilingual in English and Spanish) with the MCC admissions and enrollment processes, co-curricular learning opportunities, career exploration, and first semester advising. The advisor maintains knowledge of current MCCCD policies and procedures and demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties. This is a specially funded assignment with a projected end date of 09/30/2026 with annual renewal based on available funds and the needs of MCCCD.

Essential Functions


30% Assists with enrollment services to new and continuing Mesa College Promise college students, including outreach to families, student recruitment, program orientation, and financial aid/scholarship resources and support

30% Provides Mesa College Promise students with academic advisement and educational planning for students pursuing MCC certificates and/or degrees with an emphasis on STEM fields

20% Monitors and tracks student success, including academic progress; provides academic support resources and early interventions

15% Assists with the planning and coordination of STEM co-curricular activities including career exploration.

5% Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and three year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in any field related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Experience in admissions, outreach/recruitment, student development, or career services in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in academic advising/educational planning of students in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of trends, characteristics, and issues facing diverse student populations as it relates to first-generation, low-income, underrepresented, and underprepared students within higher education
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Special Working Conditions
