The Crafts Center functions as an arts organization specializing in fine craft and making in both traditional and digital media. Non-credit non-degree classes are offered each semester in various craft media. Offerings support all skill levels from beginner to advanced and are open to NC State students, faculty/staff, and the general public. Whether in support of academic requirements or personal artistic aspirations, the Crafts Center provides participants with the proper facilities, equipment, instruction, and support needed to develop life-long, creative, and practical skills.

Essential Job Duties
The position of Studio Manager will primarily be responsible for the routine maintenance and operation of the glass, jewelry, mixed media, photography, and lapidary studios. This is a utility position that requires broad knowledge and skills related to the operations of these studios and programs as well as assistance with all Crafts Center operations as needed.

The Studio Manager will provide instruction and technical guidance and will share in program development and related leadership in support of classes, workshops, and special student/faculty/staff/community engagement activities.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Programmatic responsibilities for the above-listed studios: scheduling classes, working with instructors, identifying new resources [instructors, new classes, technologies, etc.], assisting with/providing course content/imagery, bringing in guest instructors and artists.
  • Provide instruction and technical guidance, and share in program development and related leadership in support of classes, workshops, and special events.
  • Audiovisual management and support for all programs.
  • Academic support for college-related classes, exhibitions, and activities.

The Studio Manager will report directly to the Director of the Crafts Center.

Other Responsibilities
  • Share in the development of new and engaging activities, projects, and classes geared toward NC State students and the campus community
  • Support the educational experience of students through in-studio and outreach activities
  • Coordinate volunteer assistance for events as needed
  • Process payments and support front desk operations
  • Lead and participate in extracurricular campus activities [such as Packapalooza, Arts NC State events, annual Crafts Fair]
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelors degree, preferably in theatre arts, and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.



Other Required Qualifications
  • Proficient in equipment maintenance (lapidary, glass, jewelry, mixed media, darkroom, digital photography studios or related studios)
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and hazards related to operating equipment in the studios and ability to operate all equipment safely
  • Ability to maintain and operate electric glass kilns
  • Ability to maintain gas and oxygen tanks for jewelry studio
  • Ability to communicate well with staff and students
  • Ability to teach studio classes for higher education students and adults
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Work experience in a community or educational arts facility is preferred
  • Ability to work with and assist students of varying abilities, identities, and backgrounds
  • Proficiency in tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator), or similar applications

  • A valid NC Drivers License is required within 60 days of hire
