*****Beginning 3/19/24, Lifeguard Conditioning Practice will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5PM to 7PM, and every Saturday from 10AM to 12PM at Morris Memorial Pool, 802 N Av. C, Elgin, TX. At practice, we will offer preparation for the certification test required for this position.

SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of assigned supervisor, the lifeguard ensures the safety of patrons at the Elgin Municipal Pool by preventing and responding to emergencies. Lifeguards are responsible for monitoring the condition of the facility and equipment to ensure safe operations and are expected to report any malfunctions to the immediate supervisor. Lifeguards are responsible for daily maintenance and upkeep of the pool conditions and facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility.
Acts immediately and appropriately to ensure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
Provides emergency first aid care and performs life saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrive.
Performs technical functions in order to maintain a clean and safe facility and pool.
Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
Always presents a professional appearance and attitude and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Must be able to work well with people of all ages and dispositions.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be 15 years or older.
State approved Lifeguarding certification, including First Aid & CPR
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of safe and effective pool operating practices.
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job is primarily performed in an outside setting in varying weather conditions and temperatures with exposure to pool and cleaning chemicals. The noise level of the work environment will range from low to high. Continuous Exposure to Wetness and Humidity. Occasional exposure to with proper safety attire and equipment to wastewater products
Disaster Service Workers Clause
Always in the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
