Position Overview

A leading general contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee on-site field operations for large-scale commercial construction projects in the Washington, DC Metro area. This role is responsible for jobsite safety, quality control, schedule execution, and day-to-day leadership from project mobilization through close-out.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on field leader with strong subcontractor management experience and a proven track record delivering complex commercial construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage daily on-site field operations for assigned commercial construction projects

  • Oversee subcontracted and self-performed work to ensure compliance with project quality standards and schedules

  • Enforce a strong jobsite safety culture in compliance with OSHA and company policies

  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and corrective actions

  • Plan and coordinate jobsite logistics, sequencing, manpower, materials, and equipment

  • Develop, maintain, and communicate project schedules and critical milestones

  • Ensure workmanship meets contract documents, drawings, and specifications

  • Manage, mentor, and develop field staff, foremen, and subcontractor teams

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with owners, consultants, inspectors, and trade partners

  • Administer and understand owner contracts, subcontracts, and vendor agreements

  • Monitor KPIs, general conditions, staffing plans, and field-related project costs

  • Lead punch list completion, commissioning support, and project close-out activities

  • Proactively resolve jobsite challenges through strong problem-solving and decision-making

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor s or Master s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
    OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant commercial construction experience

Experience Requirements
  • 5 7+ years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects

  • Proven experience delivering large-scale commercial projects

  • 2+ years of experience leading and managing field teams

  • Strong background in field operations, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination

  • Experience with one or more of the following project types preferred:

    • High-rise residential

    • Mixed-use developments

    • Hospitality

    • Student housing

    • Higher education facilities

Technical Skills & Tools
  • In-depth knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequencing

  • Strong scheduling, coordination, and field execution skills

  • Proficiency with:

    • Procore

    • Bluebeam

    • Microsoft Office Suite

    • Primavera P6

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, building codes, and safety standards

Certifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification (required or must be eligible to obtain)

Mandatory Requirements (Must-Have)

Candidates must meet all of the following criteria to be considered:

  • 5 7+ years of Superintendent experience in commercial construction

  • Experience delivering large-scale commercial projects

  • Proven field operations leadership experience

  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification (completed or eligible)

  • Procore experience

  • Ability to work 100% on-site

  • Reside within daily commuting distance of the Washington, DC Metro area

  • Strong safety and quality management background

  • Experience managing subcontractors and internal field teams
