Duties

As a Supervisory Physical Scientist (Deputy Senior Administrator) within the National Climate Adaptation Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Assist in planning, directing, and evaluating all science and operational activities for this center throughout the country.
  • Provide advice and information on matters related to policy and program development, budget formulation, and emerging national and regional science issues.
    This includes identifying programmatic opportunities and operational needs; ensuring priorities are translated to operational science plans; resolving operational problems; and analyzing and providing recommendations.
  • Represent the office at scientific meetings, agency and interagency conferences and other forums dealing with complex science issues of regional or national importance; foster cooperative relationships with other Federal, State, and local government officials, work collaboratively with representatives of national, international, and private organizations interested in natural and physical science; and provide technical advice and information within the area of expertise.
  • Exercise supervisory authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised.
  • Operate a government vehicle as an incidental driver.

A combination of education and experience-education equivalent to one of the majors shown in "A" above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science, engineering, or mathematics) that included at least 24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science and/or related engineering science as described above, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years.
