Job Brief

The Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for interfacing with suppliers, developing procurement strategies, and ensuring the quality and compliance of subcontracted parts and assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical interface with suppliers for the fabrication of subcontracted parts and assemblies
  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing Engineers and Quality to analyze new requirements
  • Perform on-site supplier quality audits/assessments
  • Maintain approved supplier list and supporting evaluations
  • Perform deep dives to analyze supplier issues/problems, risks and facilitate containment, implementation of corrective and preventative actions, and development of lessons learned
  • Verify supplier containment is taken immediately upon discovery of a quality concern
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes and collaborate with suppliers on process improvements, capabilities, and value enhancement opportunities
  • Analyze and improve supplier processes for bottlenecks and throughput to identify any constraints on production capacity
  • Improve quality, cost, delivery, and capacity metrics across the supply chain.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering, supply chain or quality control roles
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing
  • Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar training/experience
  • Experience with capacity modelling, value stream or process flow mapping
  • Strong analytical thinking, experience with Pareto analysis, root cause, and corrective actions
  • Ability to think outside the box and suggest / implement continuous improvement ideas

  • Hands on experience with sheet metal manufacturing, welding, and painting techniques, processes and equipment
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to interpret design, contract and drawing specifications
