Botetourt County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for a Support Specialist II. The Support Specialist II serves as a primary point of contact for citizens, providing high-quality customer service both over the phone and in person. This multifaceted role supports the efficiency of the department by assisting the HR/Finance Manager with data entry, transcribing official recordings, and providing administrative and logistical support for community outreach programs. The Support Specialist II will work in conjunction with the Support Specialist I to handle general administrative tasks daily. The position will remain open until filled. Botetourt County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Minimum Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. High School graduate/GED No criminal record. Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record. Good credit history. Citizen of the United States or have valid proof that citizenship is being sought. Must be qualified to become Virginia Notary Public after hire. 2+ years of experience in customer service or administrative role Primary Duties Assist citizens visiting the office as needed Manage incoming calls on multi-line phone, direct inquiries to the appropriate department or personnel Pick-up, sort and distribute mail daily Ensure proper postage on outgoing mail and deliver to post office daily Deliver daily deposits as needed Order office supplies for departments as needed Transcribe sensitive audio/video recordings of interviews or statements into clear, accurate written format. Perform Notary duties as needed for Jail and Sheriff’s Office Assists with Senior Focus and Senior Connect program as needed on and off-site Assists with Community Outreach program as needed on and off-site Create and post select overtime signup sheets for deputies Data entry for invoices for accounts payable Organize and scan receipts from purchasing cards into bank system Assist with payroll time entry for monthly payroll Assist with filing and record retention Data entry of firearm permits into records management system Upload and maintenance of e-summons into records management system Performs other related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to switch between various tasks seamlessly Fast and accurate typing skills Must have proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office 365 Suite, including Microsoft Teams, and digital file management Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet strict deadlines Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive records and information in accordance with privacy laws and internal policies Must interact and communicate in a courteous, knowledgeable manner and, when possible, advise the public and act appropriately in stressful situations Must be able to communicate with other members of the law enforcement community effectively Must also be able to successfully complete mandated and/or elective training offered relating to the position Health, vision, and dental insurance at minimal cost to employee. Dependent or family coverage available at additional cost to employee. Retirement plan under VRS 457 deferred compensation plan, with partial county match Life insurance Workers Compensation Holiday Pay Leave and sick time accrual Shifts will mainly be Monday through Friday Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for community outreach events Standard office environment with frequent sitting, standing, and light lifting (up to 20lbs.)
