Job Summary

The Surgical Technician (Open Heart Surgery) supports the Health Care Team in delivering safe, high-quality care to patients in alignment with Client's mission, vision, and values. This role participates in surgical procedures, primarily in cardiovascular and open-heart surgery, while promoting patient safety, teamwork, and professional communication. The Surgical Technician performs in the scrub role, assists with sterile core activities, and ensures compliance with surgical protocols and aseptic techniques.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Comply with shift, unit, and organizational policies, including reliability and attendance standards.

  • Demonstrate professional conduct, confidentiality (HIPAA), and adherence to Standards of Behavior.

  • Maintain current knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the surgical team to support continuity of care.

  • Participate in pre-operative briefings, intraoperative reassessments, and time-out procedures.

  • Prepare, organize, and maintain sterile surgical areas for cardiovascular/open-heart procedures.

  • Anticipate surgical team needs during operations to ensure efficiency and patient safety.

  • Manage sterile packs, equipment, and surgical supplies; perform restocking and reordering as needed.

  • Assist with emergency situations and provide appropriate support intraoperatively.

  • Support room turnovers including cleaning, procurement of supplies/equipment, and restocking.

  • Participate in the reprocessing of surgical instruments and sterile core functions.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology.

  • Licenses/Certifications:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Required at hire.

    • Surgical Technologist Certificate Required at hire.

  • Knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instruments, and operating room protocols.

  • Strong manual dexterity, judgment, and ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 5 years of surgical scrub experience, preferably in cardiovascular or open-heart surgery.

  • Experience rotating through sterile core areas, reprocessing instruments, and stocking supplies.

  • Prior experience in inpatient or ambulatory operating room settings.

Additional Details
  • Years of Experience Required: 1+ year minimum (open-heart surgery experience preferred).

  • Industry Experience: Healthcare Surgical Services.

  • Relocation Assistance: Available (regional).
