Job Summary:
The Surgical Technician will work primarily in supporting the surgeon and circulating RN in vascular procedures in our Procedure Suite. You may also support vein cases and sclerotherapy procedures in the office setting. The position’s duties are highly variably, so the successful candidate must be willing to change direction at a moment’s notice and keep pace with the other OR professionals on staff. Travel to other office locations may be required for operational coverage.
Surgical Technician Responsibilities Include:
- Prepare instruments, equipment and appropriate supplies needed for office surgical procedures
- Clean and sterilize procedure room and instruments; cleans room and decontaminates all equipment and instruments in accordance with Group policies/procedures.
- (May) communicate pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients
- Observe and maintain compliance with all OSHA guidelines including hazard communication, MSDS and PPE requirements
- Perform a variety of clinical & administrative tasks such as documentation to EMR, completing consent paperwork, processing medical clearances
- Assist physician and nursing staff during procedure(s) while utilizing aseptic techniques
- Maintains and operates all departmental equipment necessary for patient care (i.e. ultrasound, autoclave, various catheters, laser and RF machines).
- Scrubs, gowns and gloves in accordance with AORN standards.
- Applies proper post-operative dressings, pulls femoral sheaths and permcaths, assists with debridement, as needed
- Manage inventory, ensuring availability of necessary supplies
- Process disability paperwork for patients
- Handles protected health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Adheres to all Group policies and procedures in execution of job responsibilities.
- Participates in Quality Improvement Program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Surgical Technician Skills and Experience:
- Minimum five+ years as a surgical technician, preferably in a vascular surgery practice
- Knowledge of sterile/aseptic technique
- Strong patient focus and customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Works well under pressure
- Maintains professional demeanor, works cooperatively with others
Surgical Technician Education:
- Completion of a surgical technician program through an accredited school; surgical technician certification is required
- Current CPR/BLS and AED certification
