Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. This position is responsible for preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, and assisting the surgical team throughout procedures to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Reports To: Director of Surgery / Operating Room
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room with required instruments, equipment, supplies, and sterile solutions

  • Verify proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment prior to procedures

  • Assist with patient preparation, positioning, transporting, and draping

  • Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments and supplies during procedures

  • Maintain accurate counts and tracking of instruments, sponges, and supplies

  • Receive, label, and transport specimens to the laboratory following protocol

Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professionalism when interacting with patients, staff, vendors, and external partners

  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations

  • Follow hospital policies, procedures, and best practices

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program (required)

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire

Experience

  • 1 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience (preferred)

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure surgical environments

  • Excellent attention to detail and strict adherence to sterile technique

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
