SUMMARY
Directs and coordinates the planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of continuous production improvement efforts related to mold processes, mold construction, scrap reduction, and improved product quality

Sustaining Engineering is included in the Process Engineering group; however their job tasks require they be trained to Project Engineer responsibilities (along with Process Engineering). Throughout any procedures, PWI’s, or work instructions where “Project Engineer” is referenced, this can be interchangeable with Sustaining Engineer. Other duties may be assigned.
Sustaining Engineer:
*Works directly for the Sustaining & Process Engineering Manager on any assigned tasks and projects.
*Takes lead role as Sustaining Engineer on new production capable program transferred from the Product Development group.
*Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Tool Shop Manager, Tool Room Supervisor, and Process Engineering to develop and implement permanent corrective actions associated with less than optimal manufacturing practices.
*Works with Process Engineering group and reviews as required any established process cards for improvements/enhancements
*Accepts responsibility for planning budget and monitors that delivery dates will be met.
*Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving operational design
and test problems.
*Helps in determining root cause of problems with molds; coordinates problem solving with Process
Engineering and Tool Shop.
*Coordinates with Engineering Sales as to changes made to tools; obtains authorization for changes.
*Informs Engineering Sales of changes affecting delivery timing and costs.
*Reviews existing quality controls to determine if modifications are required to improve production operations.
*May requisition supplies such as mold bases and special component parts per Bill of Materials.
*Provides innovation and leadership to improve functions.
*Reviews Q.A. inspections reports.
*Travels as required.
*Entertains customers as required.
*Evaluates potential vendor service as required.
SKILLS:
Four year college or university program certificate; or approximately five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be familiar with plastic injection molding concepts, processing, mold design, and production operation set-up.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, corporate procedures, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to communicate with internal and external customers and vendors in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Must have proficient computer skills with spreadsheets and word processing capabilities. Should have knowledge
of ERP systems.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Employee regularly uses hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment can vary and may require hearing protection depending on specific daily work area.
