Job Description
Under general supervision, the Systems Administrator provides support for servers, the system network, networked applications, and IP telephony. Additional duties include providing on-call service, purchasing equipment, and providing technical advice and assistance to management regarding the design, acquisition, and installation of hardware and software to meet strategic needs and deadlines.
- Provides support for the City’s computer network and networked applications and IP telephony.
- Utilizes help-desk ticketing software; processes requests and responds directly or forwards to the next tier of support; provides completion, updates, or other status information via e-mail, in-person, or voice mail.
- Monitors and analyzes the entire network in order to troubleshoot existing problems and identify areas of concern.
- Manage assigned City IT projects by, setting project goals, maintaining project timeframes, coordinating project team members and establishing relationship with vendor liaison.
- Works on projects as a team and individually to complete them within acceptable parameters and expected timeframes, including projects related to new software installation, distribution, and hardware upgrades, and testing new software or trial software.
- Secures information by creating, modifying and disabling Active Directory user accounts, managing file and folder permissions on network shares, and maintaining VPN security.
- Makes decisions, purchases and provisions City system equipment.
- Provides 24/7 on-call support to City emergency and public agencies including but not limited to Police, Fire, and the Public Library system.
- Maintains the integrity of City data through information security and access management; ensures the security of the information systems, communications lines, and equipment.
- Maintains the backups and restoration of data and regular data library maintenance.
- Manage vendor relationships focusing on scheduling needed servicing, negotiating purchasing, and communicating any product or service-related concerns.
- Provides MDM administration and management to include; end user/device enrollments and deletions, ensuring mobile implementations are in line with City standards, mobile device testing, end user troubleshooting, and providing technical support on all mobile products.
- Search for requested information in City systems, including but not limited to, e-mail, phones, on premises and cloud storage devices to fulfill open records requests. Organize and provide information to requestor upon completion of search.
- Writes and maintain documentation including flow charts, diagrams, user manuals, and installation instructions to ensure proper use of system.
- Keeps up-to-date on new emerging technologies.
- Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
- Communicates with, and provides advice to, management and others in the work unit regarding decommission of old hardware and software as well as implementation of new technologies.
- Works safely, follows safe work practices, and identifies and reports unsafe work conditions.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor degree in computer science or a closely related field.
- Four years of experience in a multi-user environment.
- Equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other City departments, vendors, contractors, external government agencies and organizations.
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous public sector experience in information technology.
Compensation details: 36.1-39.72 Hourly Wage
