The EIC will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the \"glue\" that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. The machine design is based on the existing RHIC Ion-Ion collider and will consist of two intersecting accelerators, one producing an intense beam of electrons and the other a beam of protons or heavier nuclei. Beyond scientific discoveries, the EIC will trigger technological breakthroughs with broad-ranging impact on health and national challenges. Position Description The Systems Engineer in the EIC will provide oversight and coordination of critical activities, including defining performance requirements, managing cross-system interfaces, and supporting design reviews. The role will also support installation and removal activities as the project advances. The Systems Engineer will collaborate and coordinate EIC Systems Engineering responsibilities across technical teams, ensuring effective communication and continuity in systems integration and verification processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead and support requirements development by coordinating with physicists, engineers, and subsystem leads to gather, validate, and document performance requirements, ensuring completeness and technical accuracy. Facilitate integration across technical groups, developing interface documentation, managing sign-off processes, and maintaining alignment between interdependent systems. Organize and conduct technical coordination meetings, track actions, and ensure follow-through on decisions affecting cross-cutting systems. Assist in design review preparation and execution, ensuring design packages meet system-level criteria and requirements traceability. Support installation and removal planning, collaborating with system owners and integration leads to ensure safe and efficient implementation. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor's degree in engineering At least seven years' relevant experience Microsoft computer skills including Excel and Word Knowledge of operating accelerator systems such as: power supplies instrumentation vacuum control systems machine protection Experience with accelerator construction projects including rack installation, cable selection and routing, and component integration Expertise in communication within a technical team and across multiple teams to identify and solve accelerator technical issues Experience with generation of utility requirements and transmission to the infrastructure team Microsoft computer skills including Excel and Word Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity with database structures and software tools Proficiency in programming tools such as Visual Basic and/or Power BI Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements Ability to climb ladders of low to moderate heights Other Information Hybrid work eligible for one day each week Some travel may be required. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate\'s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
