Job Description

Tax & Accounting Manager

Venus, TX, near Midlothian and Waxahachie

$125,000 to $145,000

Step out of public accounting without stepping away from quality work

If you are a CPA with a strong grounding in accounting and tax, but the hours and pace of public accounting are starting to wear thin, this could be a great move.

This is an opportunity to join a well run, family owned construction business where the pace is more sustainable, the role is broad and meaningful, and the handover is genuine.

The company has been established for more than 40 years, generates around $130m in revenue, employs more than 300 people, and runs around 50 live projects each year across civil engineering, groundworks, and utilities.

Their long standing Accountant has been with the business for nearly 20 years and plans to retire at the end of 2026. They are hiring now so there is time to learn the role properly, understand the business from the inside, and take over in the right way.

This is not a sink or swim move. It is a chance to build a long term future in industry with proper support from day one.

Why this role stands out

A lot of people in public accounting do not want less interesting work. They just want a better life around it.

This role gives you the chance to take everything you have learned across GAAP, tax, and client service, and apply it inside one established business where your work has visible impact.

You will join a stable, profitable, family owned company that values loyalty, common sense, and people who want to build something over time. You will work closely with the current Accountant during a proper transition period, giving you the chance to learn the details before taking full ownership.

There is also real breadth here. This is not a narrow reporting role. It is a broad accounting position with operational exposure, visibility with leadership, and room to grow into a bigger finance role over time.

Construction experience is highly desirable, whether that comes from working in industry or supporting construction clients in public accounting.

What you will be doing

You will spend the early phase of the role working alongside the current Accountant, learning the business and building confidence before stepping fully into position.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Accounts payable and accounts receivable

• General ledger

• Weekly in house payroll

• Job costing and project costing

• Fixed assets and depreciation schedules

• Monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting

• Supporting leadership with clearer financial visibility

• Helping support growth, expansion, and any new entities as the business evolves

This is a role where finance is close to the operation. You will not be sat in the background. You will work closely with ownership and become a key part of how the business runs.

Who this could suit

A great opportunity for a CPA coming from public accounting who has experience across both accounting and tax, and wants to move into a more stable environment without losing variety or responsibility.

Experience with Construction clients is preferred, but they are open minded.

$125,000 to $145,000 depending on experience, plus:

• 3 weeks PTO plus federal holidays

• Strong healthcare

• 401(k) with 5% company match

The role is based in Venus, Texas, near Midlothian and Waxahachie. It is mainly office based because the business values working closely as a team, with flexibility when needed for real life.

If you want to move away from the pressure and unpredictability of public accounting into something more grounded, stable, and sustainable, this is well worth a look.

Want to hear more before applying? That’s absolutely fine. Call 972.807.7244 for a confidential chat before sending your resume.

Best case, this is the last job search you need for a very long time.

Worst case, it’s a useful conversation about the market
