Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Tax Accountant provides foundational support for the company’s indirect tax functions. This role is responsible for the day‑to‑day execution of sales and use tax compliance, maintaining accurate documentation, and assisting with account reconciliations. The Accountant ensures data integrity and supports the broader tax team in meeting monthly and quarterly filing deadlines. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Indirect Tax Compliance & Reporting Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions using a third‑party software e.g. (Avalara) Gather and validate data required for use tax remittances. Maintain accurate and organized electronic files for exemption certificates, business licenses, sales tax licenses, and related regulatory documents. Assist with preparing filings for business privilege taxes, gross receipts taxes, and other local tax obligations. Review tax notices and assist with resolving discrepancies. Audit Support And Licensing Assist external auditors, state auditors, and internal stakeholders during sales and use tax audits. Compile supporting documentation and respond to audit inquiries in a timely manner. Prepare and track filings for business licenses, sales tax permits, and local business privilege taxes. Tax Research & Compliance Monitoring Research state and local tax regulations to remain current on changes affecting the company. Communicate relevant updates to senior team members and help assess potential impacts. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Information and Technology Department and other departments to ensure proper tax treatment of transactions. Support the monthly close process by preparing tax‑related journal entries and account reconciliations. Process Improvement Contribute to documenting and enhancing internal tax processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. Identify opportunities to streamline data collection and reporting workflows. Other Duties Support federal income tax compliance and reporting activities as assigned. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. 3–5 years of relevant tax experience (Public Accounting or Corporate Tax). Familiarity with sales tax software (e.g., Avalara) preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow professionally.
