POSITION SUMMARY
As a key member of our accounting team, you'll focus on providing tax expertise within the construction industry, especially sales tax, to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations in multiple states and jurisdictions, including California. You’ll manage all tax-related functions, including filing tax returns and managing tax-related audits.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in tax law and regulations, experience managing multi-state tax compliance and a passion for providing guidance to the accounting team and company leadership.
Location: Rancho Dominguez, CA (Moving to new HQ in Cypress, CA during Spring/Summer of 2025).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide specialized tax expertise in the construction industry.
- Preparing and filing tax-related returns for multiple states and jurisdictions, including, but not limited to, sales tax returns, unsecured property taxes, payroll taxes, ACA filings, and other direct or indirect taxes.
- Maintain documentation and records related to tax filings, provisions and other tax-related activities.
- Coordinate & manage audits, inquires, and notices from tax authorities.
- Conduct a thorough analysis of current taxes to provide expert advice on compliance with local, state, & national regulations.
- Identifying, tracking and reporting any potential financial risks or issues and working closely with the accounting team to implement appropriate solutions
- Collaborating with accounting team to ensure tax strategies and policies are implemented.
- Collaborate with other accounting teams, such as accounts payable, payroll, staff accountants, etc. to ensure alignment and coordination on tax-related matters.
- Proactively identify potential tax risks or opportunities for the organization.
- Stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations in all states and jurisdictions we operate in, or plan to operate in.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax management, with heavy exposure in California sales tax.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal department heads.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
Preferred
- Experience in multi-state corporate tax codes, ideally in the construction industry.
- Demonstrated ability to support senior staff during audits.
- Exposure to unsecured property and payroll taxes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse uneven ground while walking job sites and climb stairs to access job site trailers
COMPENSATION
$110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
