Works with individual children as directed by a teacher. Assists children with arrival and departure involving coats, boots, and lunches. Helps keep supplies and materials in order. Helps prepare materials for their use. Cleans up and puts away materials after use. Changes children's clothing and cleanses children, if necessary. Assists the teacher in implementing the classroom and/or individual student's behavior management program. Accompanies a child when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the child must go to another part of the building. Assists in restraining students who may exhibit behaviors that are injurious to self or others. Assists and supervises games and free play, both indoors and outdoors. Assists the teacher in the implementation of activities that include but are not limited to: feeding, toileting, and other activities of daily living (e.g., grooming, hygiene, leisure/recreation, etc.). Lifts and transports students in conjunction with daily living activities. Teacher Aides working with non-ambulatory students are expected to lift 40‑pound loads independently and may be required to lift/move students weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance from another adult and/or with the use of appropriate lifting devices. Special Note: The ability to lift/move students either independently or with assistance is a condition of employment for teacher aides who work with non-ambulatory students. Initial and periodic physical examinations will test this ability. Teacher aides should not attempt to lift more than one‑third of their body weight without assistance from another adult or appropriate lifting devices. Be an active part of the classroom education team, as demonstrated by following teacher directions, being cooperative, showing support for other team members and focusing on student needs and outcomes. Discuss parental requests for information with the teacher before responding. Maintains confidentiality of student information.
