Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired will be valued as you collaborate with educational teams, families, and related service providers to deliver individualized instruction tailored for each student’s unique needs. Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Illinois Professional Educator License with a Visual Impairment endorsement (or eligibility)
  • Experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in educational settings
  • Proficiency in teaching Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility concepts
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Creativity and flexibility in adapting materials and methodologies

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and consultative services to students with visual impairments
  • Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to foster student progress
  • Design and modify learning materials for accessibility, including Braille, large print, or auditory formats
  • Support students in using assistive technology and adaptive devices
  • Advocate for environmental modifications to ensure safe and equitable access throughout school settings
  • Document progress and maintain relevant student records
