Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A full-time or part-time opportunity is available for a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) serving multiple schools in the Houston, TX area. This itinerant role supports K-12 students across several campuses within the district, providing specialized instruction tailored to meet the needs of visually impaired learners.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and support staff to develop and implement effective teaching strategies
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress regularly
- Provide training and resources related to visual impairment to school staff and families
- Travel between assigned schools within the district, ensuring consistent service delivery
Qualifications:
- Licensed Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) credential for the State of Texas is required
- Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments is preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage a caseload across multiple school sites
- Flexibility to work full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday) or part-time schedules
Location: Houston, TX (Northwest/City Center area). This position is on-site only and requires regular travel between schools within the district.
