Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Make a difference by supporting students as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired on a contract basis near Dekalb, IL. This opportunity allows you to collaborate directly with schools and work with children who require unique and individualized educational support. You'll be part of a dedicated team ensuring that students with visual impairments have access to quality learning experiences.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or equivalent credential
  • Previous experience working with students who are visually impaired, preferably in a school setting
  • Familiarity with Braille instruction, assistive technology, and specialized materials
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with teachers, families, and support staff
  • Ability to assess student needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Comfortable providing both direct instruction and consultative services

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments based on their individual needs and IEPs
  • Adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments to ensure accessibility
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement accommodations and modifications
  • Provide training and guidance to staff and families regarding assistive technology and specialized instructional strategies
  • Monitor and document student progress, maintaining thorough records
  • Participate in IEP meetings, student evaluations, and multidisciplinary team planning
