POSITION:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Program Instructional Coach

(Teacher or Guidance Assigned A)

ELIGIBILITY:

Licensed, appointed and tenured Special Education Teacher or Guidance Counselor

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Masters Degree in special education or a related service area: speech, school psychology, social work, and/or guidance
  • Minimum of five (5) years satisfactory experience working with students in a special education setting with a classification/diagnosis of ASD
  • Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating the impact of professional development on topics related to educating and supporting students with ASD
  • Experience in development and proper implementation of IEP mandated programs and services for students with disabilities, and specifically ASD, as well as ensuring that IEPs are developmentally appropriate and relevant to individual student needs
  • Evidence of building strong relationships with colleagues, families, and community members
  • Collaborative approach to project management, case consultation, and student support.
  • Knowledge of New York State laws and New York City regulations and policies relating to the provision of instruction and services to general and special education students.
  • Knowledge of special education and ASD programs in New York City public schools; experience working in an ASD program preferred.
  • Prefer candidate to have a BCBA or training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Director of ASD Programs, Special Education Office in the Division of Specialized Instruction and Student Support, the ASD Instructional Coach will:

  • Provide professional development and on site coaching to schools that have specialized programs for students with ASD classification.
  • Provide information, professional development, and training on the referral, assessment, and provision of instruction to students with autism and have an IEP.
  • Provide direct coaching to teachers of students who have autism with the goal of increasing the implementation of evidence-based effective practices and improving outcomes for student with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with contracted partners to provide high quality services to schools and teachers.
  • Ensure program fidelity through training and support of school-based staff in the implementation of best practices supporting students with autism, including special curricula and its integration in the school day.
  • Guide and advise school staff including school administrators in supporting students with autism and their unique needs.
  • Assist with the development and execution of city-wide professional development and workshops for supporting students with autism.
  • Participate in central and school level meetings with local administrators, program partners and Citywide Borough Offices (C/BO) as required.
  • Provide on-site support and coaching as requested for schools that do not have ASD programs to engage in practices, strategies, and interventions that support students with autism.
  • Interface between ASD program schools, partner organizations, and related service providers.
  • Attend conferences, professional development, and training as required.

Monday Friday; 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
