DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As the supervisor of the Permitting Section in the New Stanton District Mining Office, your main responsibility will be to oversee the daily operations and ensure that all applications are reviewed efficiently and within the designated time frames. You will be in charge of assigning applications to permit reviewers, ensuring a fair distribution of workload. Additionally, you will review the Record of Decision (ROD) and provide recommendations to the Environmental Program Manager (EPM). Another important aspect of your role will be to maintain and review the tracking listings of permit applications that are currently being reviewed by your staff. This will help you stay updated on the progress of each application and ensure that they are being processed in a timely manner. To keep your team well-informed about any program changes and upcoming deadlines, you will conduct regular staff meetings within the Permit Section. This will provide an opportunity for open communication and allow you to address any concerns or questions that your employees may have. In addition to your supervisory duties, you will also be responsible for assigning special projects to your staff that are related to permit processing and review. This will allow your team members to gain valuable experience and contribute to the overall efficiency of the department. Lastly, you will play a crucial role in reviewing and evaluating the completed work of your staff members on specific permit applications. It will be your responsibility to ensure that all necessary criteria outlined in the regulations for the issuance or denial of a permit have been thoroughly addressed. This step is essential to maintaining the integrity and quality of the permit review process.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • A bachelors degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; and five years of professional environmental protection experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid drivers license.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Professional Engineer license or a valid Professional Geologist license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
