About the Role

We are seeking a versatile and proactive Technical Specialist to support the firm’s technology environment and ensure smooth daily operations across our accounting, tax, and advisory practices. This mid-level role is ideal for someone who has broad technical experience, thrives in a professional services setting, and enjoys being the go-to resource for both staff and leadership.

This role will manage and optimize our systems, support end users, maintain data integrity and security, and collaborate across departments to enhance workflows and technology adoption.

Key Responsibilities

Data & Workflow Optimization

  • Supports the integration, management, and security of AI-enabled tools used within accounting and tax systems to streamline routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Assists with integrating AI capabilities into existing accounting and practice management platforms, including other firm systems, and supports users as workflows evolve.
  • Help ensure AI-generated outputs within accounting, tax, and audit processes align with firm standards, regulatory requirements, and professional guidelines.
  • Identifies repetitive, manual processes and supports the implementation of automated workflows within existing technology platforms.
  • Assist with onboarding new applications, integrations, and process changes.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide support for staff across all offices, resolving hardware, software, networking, and application-related issues.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical problems.
  • Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot Windows workstations, laptops, printers, scanners, VoIP phones, and other office technology.

Accounting/Tax Software Administration

  • Administer and support accounting firm applications such as:
    • QuickBooks Desktop/Online
    • CCH/Thomson Reuters/Caseware (and other firm-specific tax software)
    • Practice management, workflow, invoicing and document management systems
  • Manage updates, licensing, integrations, and user access and permission levels.

Systems & Infrastructure Management

  • Assist with administration of Microsoft 365, Azure AD, SafeSend, Teams, and Exchange.
  • Monitor system performance, storage, and network health; escalating server or infrastructure issues as needed.
  • Support deployment and maintenance of cloud-based solutions and data migrations.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Implement and monitor security protocols, including MFA, access controls, backups, and endpoint protection.
  • Assist in periodic audits, SOC/GLBA compliance efforts, and documentation.
  • Support user training related to cybersecurity best practices.

Project Support

  • Participate in AI enhancements and integrations to improve efficiency, accuracy, and user experience across firm processes
  • Document procedures, configurations, and system changes.

Qualifications


Required

  • 3–5 years of experience in a technical support, systems specialist, or IT generalist role.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 ecosystem and Windows OS.
  • Experience supporting accounting or tax software in a professional services environment.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve a wide range of technical problems.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Strong customer service mindset and ability to work with non-technical staff.

Preferred

  • Experience with cloud management tools.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, GLBA).
  • Experience with OCR, e-signature tools, workflow systems, and client portals.
  • Scripting knowledge (PowerShell, batch, etc.) a plus.
  • Exposure to network management (firewalls, VPN, switches).

Soft Skills

  • Proactive, resourceful, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Collaborative team player who enjoys supporting both technical and operational functions.
  • Adaptable, curious, and eager to learn new systems and technologies.

Success in This Role Looks Like:
