Laboratory SupervisorUnder the supervision of the divisional Laboratory Director or Manager, the Laboratory Supervisor provides clinical and technical supervision of staff medical laboratory technologists and technicians to satisfy daily testing demands and department operations. The Supervisor coordinates and oversees all staff activities in core and/or specialty laboratory areas, and maintains standards in accordance with department, hospital, and regulatory agency requirements. The Supervisor serves as a communication link between medical staff, nursing, and the laboratory, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other practitioners on special or difficult patient cases. The supervisor may perform in a clinical capacity when necessary to perform bench testing, and must be able to fulfill all duties of an MT/MLT.Essential Functions:Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.Oversees daily operations and supervision of technical staff in the laboratory, including the appraisal of performance and providing regular and annual performance feedback.Responsible for training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with the organization's policies; and working with the Manager/Director in all activities related to employee hiring, termination, reward and discipline as needed.Supervises the production and performance of bench testing to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. Analyzes testing information to determine operating efficiency of process.Has administrative oversight of personnel-related duties, including maintaining employee records and timesheets, anticipating laboratory supply and staffing needs, and preparing work schedules to achieve cost effective utilization of resources.Develops and maintains laboratory guidelines and procedure manuals to ensure effective instrument and equipment use as well as quality control of testing. Evaluates new reagents and equipment according to established standards. Fully understands, complies with, and promotes the requirements for all regulatory agencies, including TJC, CAP, OSHA, DOH, and FDA.Oversees daily operations to control costs, and maintain operations at a level consistent with budgetary guidelines. Provides the Manager/Director with assistance in the preparation of the annual budget for the department as needed.Consults with laboratory staff, physicians and other customers to assist in performing and interpreting technical studies. Serves as a consultant in technical troubleshooting.Instructs departmental personnel and laboratory users on technical procedures to improve efficiency and ensure conformance with department standards. Provides educational experience for the staff.Participates in the development, continuation, and ongoing monitoring of QC and performance improvement programs.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field preferred; Associate's Degree required. HEW certification with demonstrated supervisory experience will be considered in lieu of degree AND Experience: 5 years' related experience in a medical laboratory setting with at least 1-3 years of supervisory and/or lead experience. Prior supervisory experience preferred.Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.Salary Range: $84,756.17 to $123,797.57The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills and qualifications.
