Technical Writer/Trainer – Automotive EngineeringLocation: Fenton, MI (100% Onsite)Employment Type: Long-Term ContractJob OverviewWe are seeking a detail‑oriented Technical Writer – Automotive Engineering to develop, update, and maintain customer documentation in alignment with OEM and Tier‑1 requirements. This role includes reviewing all documentation prior to customer submission, supporting management system improvements, and performing process audits. Occasional domestic or international travel for onsite customer training may be required.Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary ResponsibilitiesCreate, edit, and review content for new and updated Operation & Maintenance Manuals.Participate in weekly team meetings to review workload, project status, and schedules.Track documentation needs based on project progress on the shop floor.Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production Control teams to gather required information.Develop and maintain documentation progress reports.Ensure documentation complies with customer specifications and standards.Utilize modern software tools including Windows 11, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premiere.Read and interpret technical manuals, specifications, engineering journals, abstracts, and related materials.Support documentation requests from project managers and customers.Maintain consistent, reliable attendance.Secondary ResponsibilitiesConduct onsite customer training using prepared Operation & Maintenance Manuals (may require daily travel or multi‑day overnight travel within the U.S., Canada, Mexico, or international locations).Schedule training sessions and coordinate with team members.Maintain training records, sign‑in sheets, and documentation of training topics.Deliver classroom training and hands‑on equipment demonstrations as needed.Additional Job RequirementsAbility to work different shifts, positions, or overtime based on business needs.Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for onsite training.While manual development is the primary responsibility, occasional onsite training may be required (though currently less frequent).Education & Experience RequirementsAssociate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or 6–12 months of related experience/training.Experience interfacing with customers; experience with FORD, FCA, GM, or Tier‑1 suppliers preferred.Working knowledge of ISO standards and APQP practices.
